This project for Harris Broadcast's Invenio® asset management software gave us a chance to create a ferocious Data Beast using all of the tools in or arsenal on a single image. With quick digital paint comps, 3D models and post image processing we were able to create a dynamic character image and also offer a flexible workflow that helped manage the unexpected scope changes of the project without affecting the schedule, or the quality of the final image. We recently got a call from the creative team at Fitzgerald+Co. They had a brief that was pretty off the wall. "Design an inflatable, talking flying piggy bank" and on top of it all it had to look great and actually work as a practical flying balloon prop for the series of TV spots that were being made parallel to the print and in-store campaigns. We love challenges like this and it is always a bonus when we get a passionate client that really wants something to work and is willing to play with various solutions and explorations. you can see the result of the combined efforts in these hilarious spots. We explored over two dozen different dog breeds, variant silhouettes, and multiple render textures and materials during the process. Trying to create a strong graphic form as well as capture all the multiple subtleties and attitudes of a Labrador while still retaining the balloon look was not an easy task. But after a great collaborative process with the creative team the results are pretty spectacular, and the promotion is a huge success. Even though we were already overbooked, this project was way too funny not to do. After some hilarious brainstorming sessions with Richard we came up with a series of 8 illustrations for the cover and one that introduces the article.
