Bigshot Toyworks has an incredible amount of work being shown at this year’s San Diego Comic Con…here’s a sneak peek, and info on where to find it!

We’ve got several new pieces releasing this Fall with some amazing creative partners. The second and final colorway of the “Misfortunate Travelers” resin statue, designed by Chris Ryniak and Jonathan Bergeron, will be available soon along with the “Scary Girl” statue designed by Nathan Jurevicius. These two pieces are geared more towards fine art collectors, and have turned out beautifully! Both statues will be available for wholesale through DKE Toys, and will be on display at San Diego Comic Con at their booth, #4732.

Mike Sutfin’s first version of his Mad Battle Man figure will be exclusively available at San Diego Comic Con at the Toy Tokyo booth, #5437. This is the inaugural release from Reckless Toys, with the sculpting and production assistance by Bigshot Toyworks. Limited to 60 pieces worldwide, the over-9-inch-tall, soft-vinyl figure will go on sale on Preview Night, Wednesday, July 21, for $98.

Coming at SDCC is the first release of “The Seeker”, a 12″ vinyl figure based on a character created by noted pop surrealist artist & illustrator, Jeff Soto. These special Hi-Fructose exclusives will also come with a limited edition print, signed and numbered by Jeff!

The Seeker will be available in several variants, each with a different paint scheme and horn design. Featuring original box art by Jeff Soto and with the “Ghost Seeker” variant scheduled to be released at 2010 San Diego Comic Con through Hi-Fructose Magazine (Booth#4939), The Seeker is one of the most highly anticipated designer art toys of the year!

The Uncle Six Eyes statue by Travis Louie has changed course and will be released as a 10″ bust instead of a full-body figure. The final production prototype will be available to view at San Diego Comic Con, also at the Hi-Fructose Magazine booth, #4939.

We’re also incredibly excited to announce two more resin projects, both of which will be available for viewing at San Diego Comic Con. We’ve just completed the sculpt for a new bust based on Mike Mignola’s “Skeleton Head” character, with an estimated launch date of Winter 2010. The prototype will be available for viewing at Mignola’s booth, #4901.

We’ll also be showing, again at the Hi-Fructose booth, the prototype of a new statue, commissioned by Circa Survive and based on the painting by Esao Andrews used for their album, “Blue Sky Noise”. The statue will be available directly from the band, and further details will be announced as they have been finalized.

Bigshot Toyworks contributed character development and design, as well as digital modeling for the “Salty” character in this series of ads for Knorr Sidekicks. The clips were animated by the fine folks at Sons & Daughters, directed by David Hicks, and commissioned by DDB Canada for Knorr. We’re thrilled to have been involved in such a quality project! As you can see, everyone’s hard work produced a truly quality spot for a happy client.

Knorr was so happy with the response to the ad, they commissioned several more ads with the same characters:

Bigshot Toyworks also handled sculpting, development, and production for the actual salt & pepper shakers based on the characters. Three full production runs of the shakers sold out immediately upon release!

The characters have proven so popular they have spawned everything from Halloween costumes to Facebook groups.

This long-awaited figure was first shown in rapid output prototype form at 2009 San Diego Comic Con. All new toy designs from Bigshot Toyworks are sculpted digitally, and presented to the client as rapid output prototypes for approval.

Scheduled to ship from the factor in September 2010, the first painted sample of The Seeker will be shown publicly this Saturday at the opening of Jeff’s newest solo show, “Lifecycle”, at the Jonathan Levine Gallery in NYC.

Multiple Seeker variants will be released, both different color schemes and different horn designs, with several being exclusive releases through selected retailers. So you can imagine our joy when we were given the opportunity to do some sculpting work for the very first figures from Reckless Toys, based on illustrations from Mike Sutfin and Mike Giant!

Mad Battle Man by Mike Sutfin (First pull from mold)

Mike Sutfin’s “Mad Battle Man” presented quite a challenge due to the incredible detail in Mike’s work. To oversimplify the character would ruin the appeal, but to capture all of the detail would present an object that was impossible to mold. Bigshot Toyworks was able to strike perfect balance between the original image and the limits of vinyl production and provide Reckless Toys with a sculpt that met with Reckless Toys and Mike’s approval! Bigshot Toyworks was also pleased to provide production assistance and guidance to help Reckless Toys realize their vision exactly.

Digital Sculpt by Bigshot Toyworks

Next up, Bigshot was tasked with bringing Mike Giant’s “Toypunks” mascot to life for production in Japan. While this illustration style is not as detailed as the Mad Battle Man figure, Mike Giant’s work presents a new challenge: taking a minimalistic image that presents an incredibly strong character and turning it into 3D without making it a cartoon of itself. Through the sculpting talents of Bigshot’s Scott Wetterschneider, we were able to provide Reckless Toys with exactly the sculpt they were hoping for!
